We're glad to share that Skaleet has been recognized as a Sample Vendor for Public Cloud for Banking Payments in the Gartner Hype Cycle for Payment Innovation in Banking, 2026 in the Public Cloud for Banking Payments category.

We believe this mention represents continued support of the direction we've bet on since the beginning: that mission-critical banking infrastructure can thrive in a cloud-native environment.

Why public cloud for payments is having a moment

According to Gartner analysis, public cloud for banking payments now sits in the "Mature mainstream" stage of the Hype Cycle, with a High benefit rating, 20–50% market penetration among target institutions, and an expected time to plateau of under two years. We think this is no longer an emerging bet for early adopters, it's becoming a greater share of how banks are moving money at scale.

In our view, a few forces are driving that shift, and they line up closely with what we hear from our own customers and prospects:

  • Peak-load pressure. Real-time payments and large batch files create volume spikes that legacy, on-prem infrastructure struggles to absorb. Cloud elasticity lets banks handle those peaks without over-provisioning capacity they don't need the rest of the time.

  • Payments as a commodity. Processing itself is no longer where banks differentiate, the differentiation is in speed, flexibility, and the experience layered on top. That makes SaaS and payments-as-a-service models increasingly attractive versus maintaining in-house infrastructure.

  • Regulatory and product agility. In a fast-moving compliance environment, cloud-native platforms make it far easier to roll out changes quickly, rather than re-engineering on-prem systems every time a scheme rule or regulation shifts.

  • AI-readiness. As embedded and agentic AI become part of payment hub technology, running on a composable, cloud-native architecture makes integrating those capabilities dramatically simpler.

  • Resilience through multicloud. Banks are increasingly spreading workloads across multiple providers to protect against outages and satisfy regulatory expectations around business continuity, a trend Gartner calls out explicitly as a growing obstacle-turned-strategy.

Gartner guidance to banks evaluating this space is worth internalizing if you’re evaluating a payments platform.
